Okinawa Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA)

Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA) is a partial reimbursement for lodging and other normal expenses that come with moving with the military. TLA for military and civilians is initially authorized for 20 days. Beyond this period, strong justification and approval by the housing office is required to continue to receive TLA. Claims for TLA reimbursement can be filed every 10 days.

Off Base Housing Allowance

For military personnel, Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA) is your off base housing allowance meant to cover all of the expenses with living off base in Okinawa. This includes: rent, utilities and garbage collection. For eligible military personnel a DD Form 2367 is required to start housing allowance.

For eligible civilians, Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) will cover all of your housing expenses while living in Okinawa. Can You Live Off Base In Okinawa?

Absolutely, if you are eligible. Currently the housing office in Okinawa will provide accompanied members the option to either live on base or off base based on the occupancy levels and availability of housing on base. For single military members, this will depend on your service and your rank. Usually E-5 and above are given the option to live off base. E-4 and bellow reside in the barracks on base. Civilians, with few exceptions are all directed to find off base quarters.
